Required Preparation:

  • Participants will be emailed pdfs of participant materials or will be directed to a download site; participants are responsible for printing and binding course materials. Pens, pencils, and highlighters are also required.
  • For courses in this series participants are encouraged to have a computer loaded with Microsoft Excel 2010 or higher and  Minitab 19 or higher; a trial version of Minitab is available at http://www.minitab.com/en-us/products/minitab/ . Completion of Minitab Quality Trainer and/or experience with Minitab is highly recommended.
  • A dual monitor or dual device configuration is highly recommended to allow for real-time practice.

This 3-day, 4-hours per day hands-on webinar will provide you with fundamental knowledge and practice on Statistical Process Control (SPC) methods for both high and low volume scenarios as well as related Capability Analysis requirements and methods, including the Cp, Cpk, Pp, and Ppk indices. Students participate in instructor led examples of X-bar and R Charts, Individual and Moving Range (I-MR) Charts, Normality Testing, Capability Analysis (Cp, Cpk, Pp, Ppk), and other Process Control strategies. The program is designed for all levels of quality, design and manufacturing personnel, as well as more experienced quality, engineering, and management personnel.


Here are some of the things that you’ll learn:

  • Capability Analysis requirements and methodology related to special characteristics
  • How to develop variables control charts, including X-bar & R and Individual & Moving Range for both high volume and short-run scenarios
  • How to assess process data for statistical control
  • How do deal with out-of-control signals
  • How to distinguish between normal and non-normal data
  • Critical prerequisites for calculating Cp and Cpk
  • Fundamental differences between Cpk and Ppk and when to use each
  • How to conduct capability studies including Cp, Cpk, Pp, and Ppk for both normal and non-normal data
  • How to use product and process data to calculate appropriate product and process tolerance specifications
  • How to use demonstrated capability to lower inspection frequency
  • Demonstration and real-time practice of related studies within the Minitab environment


Recommended Resources:
Participants are responsible for securing their own copies of the related AESQ standards to class for reference purposes; AS13100, AS9145, RM13006, RM13002 and related standards are referenced, and reference materials are provided in the course materials. Participants are also encouraged to load their notebook or laptop computer with Microsoft Excel 2010 or higher and  Minitab 19 or higher; a dual monitor or dual device configuration is not mandatory but is highly recommended to be able to participate in classroom exercises. NOTE: This course does not focus on RM13004 related tools including PFD, PFMEA, and Control Plan, and is not a practicum for developing other APQP and PPAP deliverables such as MSA and GRR.
